The Basic Building Blocks Of Phonics Lessons

Did you realise the common trend right now for young kids (especially those ages 3-5) that start off their learning of reading and writing by sounding off the words. The same lessons will be complemented by a learning and appreciation of the relationship between letters and sounds.

These lessons are actually called Phonics lessons and considered to be a building block of children education in their growing up years. The discovered relationships between the sounds and letters will then be used by the children in order to speak and write the words. At the end of the day, the underlying principle here is to assist the children come up with the trend in understanding between the words and letters and in the process help then discover and understand new words. Simply put, with the help of phonics lessons it would be easier to decode new words and discover the joys of reading. The moment the school kids understand and appreciate that made is spelled using 'e' instead of the simple spelling of 'mad' then it would be easier for them to understand and read words of similar construction. In order for the phonics lessons to be effective and to help the young students, it is critical that certain stages must me hurdled and certain activities (or achievements) must be done for one to say that the lessons have been effective.

Suggested progress stages that must be hurdled by the young students of phonics

For starters, the students should be made aware that sentences are composed of interconnected wordsWords can rhyme and students should be able to come up with their own rhymesThere are different syllables that will make up the words. Students should be able to break down these syllables and identify theseWords can come with similar sounds and as such students should be made to practice these first few soundsIn the same manner, words can also end with similar sounds and as such they should be able to practice all theseThere are also medial sounds that should be learned. In phonics lessons, the medial sounds are sounds that are found in the middle. For the word /stand/, the medial sound will be /t,a,n /.Words can be broken down in their separate sounds as well and students should be able to practice these.Existing sounds can be deleted from the word and students should able to do this to come up with new words.Phonics lessons are also about the blending of sounds and segmentation of words to come up with component sounds.

These lessons are basic and building blocks of the young students' education. When these lessons are properly introduced and taught to the young students, then it would be easier to teach them complicated things in later years. As they say, communication is the key and the most basic learning that must be learned.
